No two loft spaces are exactly the same, and the right type of conversion depends on the structure of your roof, the height and pitch available, and what you want to achieve from the finished space. We are experienced in all the main types of loft conversion and will advise you honestly on which approach suits your property best.
Dormer loft conversions are the most common type we carry out, extending vertically from the slope of the roof to create a flat-ceilinged space with full standing height and a significant amount of usable floor area. They work well on most property types and offer excellent value for the space they create. Velux or roof light conversions are a simpler option where the roof structure itself remains unchanged, with Velux windows fitted into the existing slope to bring in light and ventilation. These are typically the most cost-effective route where the existing roof space already offers adequate headroom.
Hip-to-gable conversions are particularly well suited to the generous detached and semi-detached properties found throughout Cheshire, replacing the sloping end of the roof with a vertical gable wall to significantly increase the usable footprint. For the most significant transformation, a mansard conversion alters the entire rear roof slope to create a near-vertical wall and a large flat or shallow-pitched roof. Maximising the usable space and creating a result that feels less like a loft and more like a full additional floor.
Loft Conversions on period & premium Cheshire properties
Many of the homes we work on across Cheshire are period or characterful properties — the kind of houses where architectural integrity matters as much as the additional space being created. A poorly executed loft conversion on a Victorian or Edwardian property can compromise its character and, in turn, its value. A well-executed one adds to both.

Planning & Regulations Section
Most loft conversions fall within permitted development rights and do not require a planning application. However, front dormers, properties in conservation areas — of which there are several across Cheshire — and certain roof types are exceptions to this. What every loft conversion does require, regardless of planning, is building regulations approval, covering structural integrity, fire safety, insulation and means of escape.
